How to Get Good Gear

SG is quite generous and it’s very possible to get every hero but gearing is where the problem lies. I wanted to get good quick, having started in mid 2020, so I whaled quite a bit. Learned a lot of lessons along the way to really accelerate my gearing quickly. Hope it’s helpful!

Top Tips for Gearing

Free Gear is Your Friend

Other than hunts, there’s a number of ways to get high level gear. Make use of them every time they’re up.

  • World Boss - Slap unused gear on heroes just to up your CP scores. You get access to level 85 gear and gear conversion gems.

  • Hellraid - Go for the penetration necklace everytime even if you cannot clear nightmare raid. This is a perfect piece for bruisers or pure DPS. Use the crafting event or gear conversion to find a matching piece.

  • Automaton Tower - Free accessory is a god send along with a gear conversion every two weeks.

  • Arena Shop - Prioritise right side gear (necklace, ring, boots) but remember to follow the gear rolling rules. Arena gear tends to roll shit so don’t waste your charms!

  • Artena’s Crafting Event - Free weapon with the exact stats you want. Don’t craft anything except right side gear (necklace, ring, boots). Prioritise sets you don’t normally farm such as immunity or penetration but speed set is always good

  • Forge Your Epic Gear Event - Free left side and right side gear with the exact rolls you want. Prioritize gear 17 speed pieces with other stats you need. Good to make stuff that’s universally useful vs a specific hero as those heroes can drop out of the meta at anytime.

Lcft is Best Craft

You can’t choose right side main stat so you end up tossing the majority of things you craft. Craft only left side gear to be efficient. Go to the bottom section of this guide if you’re not convinced.

Gear Conversion is Always Right

DPS heroes are hardest to gear - Soulweavers can get by with sub par gear. You should prioritise right side gear (necklace, ring, boots) with all your gear conversion gems. If you’re still unsure why, I’ll show you the results of rolling right gear in the section at the bottom of this guide.

  • Start with speed boots then either attack ring or critical damage necklace. Stick to this until you have a large roster but I still only do attack rings and CD necks.

  • Speed is the go to set follow by Immunity and Penetration set depending on who you need to gear

  • For blue conversion gems focus on sets you don’t farm such as Immunity, Penetration or Lifesteal

  • To use conversion gems, make sure you extract all the relevant gear available

    • Hunt, World Boss, Raid gear drops

    • Gear that fails to roll well (right side only)

    • If you’re low on cores then +12/15 random right side gear and extract it. You’ll lose a bit of gold but you’ll have plenty of extra accessory charms from focusing on left-side

Mods Gems Can’t Bring Back the Dead

With the introduction of Modification Gems, a lot more gear becomes usable and it becomes far easier to get near perfect gear.

  • Gems become less efficient for stats with many rolls. Stick to converting stats that are base stats or only 1 roll.

  • While there are a lot more ways to get gems, you should use them sparingly. Gem purple gear with 1 bad stat or red gear with 2 bad stats.

  • Keep in mind gems when rolling gear. A ton of gear that I’d throw away at +6 now are now potential bangers.

Rift is Better than Hunt

Rift is the best place to farm for gear regardless of whether there’s a hunt buff. It’s at least 3 times better. However it requires endgame gear.

  • Transition only if you can get close to a 1-shot.

  • If you can only 2-shot it’s still better gear wise but you lose out on other drops like BMs and mystics so it becomes a personal choice

  • Choose a mix of sets, if you farm B13 normally then something like speed/torrent/pen/HP/Imm.

  • You’ll quickly run out of charms + gold. Do UH-30 when this happens or switch to W13/B13.

I’m a cleaver in RTA and exclusively farm Wyvern to continue to chase for speed. However the same gear rolling principles apply.

Gear Rolling Guide

Example Roll:

+3: Roll into eff - can be modded
+6: Low roll into CD - 1 bad roll for epic
+9: Low row into HP% - goodbye

Be Picky with What you Roll

  • 2 usable substats on purple gear and 3 on epic

    • DPS: ATK%/CC/CD/SPD

    • Bruiser: CC/CD/SPD/HP%/DEF%

    • Tanks: SPD/HP%/DEF%/ER%(if applicable on hero)

  • Above average starting rolls.

    • ATK%/HP%/DEF%/EFF%/ER%: 6%

    • CC: 4%

    • CD: 6%

    • SPD: 2 or 1 (speed set only)

  • 4 exceptions that I always roll (only keep rolling for quad/penta rolls):

    • CC% on speed/crit boots - high CC boots are essential for making fast DPS openers like Acidd/Ran

    • Eff% on speed/hit/imm boots - high Eff on boots allow you to get 120%+ debuffers like Flan/CLilias while still using a HP% ring for bulk

    • ER% on speed/ER/imm boots - same idea as Eff% but for high resist heroes like MLBaal or Elena.

    • 8% HP on speed/ER/imm on epic gear - penta roll HP% is always useful for SW/Knights even if the other stats aren’t great

Always Chase Speed

  • Roll only for speed even if the other substats aren’t useful or if they’re low roll

  • Only continue to roll if it rolls speed, allow for 1 miss roll on Epic gear. For a purple gear only roll +12/15 if +3/6/9 are all rolls into speed.

  • Keep in mind at all times what the max speed potential of this gear will be, if it’s not an improvement then stop. For example, a +6 purple gear with 7 spd can still be a 19 spd post reforge piece.

+12 and +15 are For Winners Only

  • Upgrading gear to +12 and +15 is extremely expensive, think carefully before you continue

  • I aim for an average of these stats. Adjust based on where your gear is:

    • ATK%/HP%/DEF%/EFF%/ER%: 6%

    • CC: 4%

    • CD: 6%

    • SPD: 3

  • Epics can allow for 1 low roll or 1 roll in the wrong stat.

  • Keep in mind mod gems, it allows for 1 roll into a bad stat.

  • I personally target 57GS for left side and 53GS for right side on +15 pre-reforged gear. Note that this is 83ES and 78ES respectively if you’re using the in-game scoring system.

Artena basically eliminates RNG, abuse it for the toughest pieces to craft/roll.

How to Gear a Hero Every 3 Months

Gearing in this game contains tons of RNG, while we can’t change the system, there is a way to optimize it to get the best results. Following these simple steps to get you enough left and right side pieces every 3 months without spending. I can’t guarantee all 6 pieces will gear a specific hero but eventually you’ll have 4 well geared heroes (Emperor level) every year at a minimum. Remember to chase good gear and not gearing a specific hero. I focus on DPS heroes as they’re hardest to gear, you’ll probably naturally end up getting gear for a Knight or Soul Weaver in the process.

Farm 10K Materials or just Rift

  • Follow my routine guide and farm the hunt of your choice (probably Wyvern13) using all your natural energy after completing any sidestories and other content

  • Spend all your leifs farming during the hunt buff. This happens usually every month. If you whale, the buy more leifs.

  • You should end up with 10K materials or more every month

  • If you’ve got a Rift team then you can skip the crafting

Craft Left Side (Weapon, Helmet, Armor)

  • Every month craft those 10K mats for 1 equipment slot, you can mix it up but I find it more tolerable to do one only

  • Select speed/counter/imm set for mileage gear as they’re most versatile

  • Follow the gear enhancing guide and you should end up with at least 1 good gear per month (probably more). Don’t forget to chase speed!

Gear Conversion (Boots)

  • Use your gear conversion gems for the month to craft boots, preferably on speed or counter or immunity set as they’re most universally useful

  • Follow the gear enhancing guide and you should end up with at least 1 good DPS boots.

  • If you end up with a stockpile of good boots, you can convert necklace or rings instead. You’ll end up gearing even more heroes!

Abuse Artena (Ring and Necklace)

  • SG provides a free craft approximately every 6 weeks, so you can craft 2 pieces during the 3 months

  • Take note of what set you need, this will likely be a 2 piece set such as crit, immunity, or penetration.

  • Craft 1 necklace and 1 ring of your choice. For DPS, this should be a CD% necklace and an ATK% ring. Make sure they have high rolls on 4 desirable stats.

    • Necklace: 7 ATK%, 4 CC%, 4 SPD, 7 HP%/DEF%

    • Ring: 6 CD%, 4 CC%, 4 SPD, 7 HP%/DEF%

  • Just +15 these gear regardless of how it rolls. Even if you low roll a bunch these gear will still be good as the base rolls start high.

Maximize Your Epic Gear Forge

  • SG introduced the “Forge your epic gear” event which allows you to make 2 perfect pieces - 1 left side and 1 right side. Not sure how often these will come but take advantage of it at every opportunity.

  • Forge left side: DPS Helmet

    • Helmets are the hardest to craft as they can roll any sub unlike armor that can't roll ATK% or flat ATK for example

    • DPS gear is also hardest to get. This piece can help you build those 250+ spd DPS like Maika, Straze, Tomo, Cidd, etc

    • Go for 9 ATK, 17SPD, 16CC, 8CD (High speed with CC combination is great as CC is usually lacking on high speed DPS)

    • I'd go speed set for newer players as it's more versatile

Forge right side: ATK% DPS speed set ring

    • Same logic as the helmet with regards to DPS stats

    • Speed ring is nice as it pairs nicely with Nightmare raid pen necklace. All you need is then a blue box pen boot to match

    • Go for 17SPD, 16CC, 8CD, 9HP/DEF

Biggest Gearing Mistake

Gearing is already full of RNG, why increase that RNG by crafting right side gear (Necklaces, Rings, Boots). I craft 50K rings, 50K necklaces and 50K helmets, so you can avoid it.

  • I left out mileage stats as those are statistically irrelevant

  • The last 3 numbers are most important as it represents the number of materials you need to get good gear to enhance and ultimately keep

  • Note that my gear requirements for left side (70GS) is higher than right side (60GS) so the results will favour right side slightly by default.

  • Left side is at least 2.6x more efficient then right side based on final results (gears kept). I got a nice 22 speed necklace during this session but if I discount that then it would be 4x less efficient

  • What's more alarm is the difference in gear enhanced that weren't for speed alone. The left side got to roll 6x (18) more than necklace (3) and a staggering 9x more than rings (2). This means the results are already extremely optimistic for right-side - shows how hard it is to get a matching main stat with the right subs. Potentially it should be 9x worse to craft right-side then left side.

  • Boots are even less efficient as you realistically only want speed main stat and you can’t even roll for speed. I specifically crafted Banshee mats here so I could use non-speed gear. I got insanely lucky getting 7 pieces, 5 pieces for normal players, from the 48 pieces I rolled.

Don’t waste your all your hard work farming wyvern! Craft left only!

My lucky 7 pieces from crafting Banshee boots.
